Chenega Corporation Space Planner in Washington, District Of Columbia


The Space Planner position will work closely with USAID’s M/MS/HMD Space Planning and Design Supervisor, Team Lead, and team assisting in all aspects of space planning projects.


  • Assist the Interior Design, Supervisor, and Senior Space Planner Team Lead with performing the full range of space planning work and managing multiple facilities related projects, new construction, and refurbishments

  • Utilize the principles of Interior Design, Interior Architecture, and Project Management

  • Through assigned projects the Space Planner will do the following:

  • Work directly with the POC in gathering the scope of work

  • Survey the space as needed

  • Create a Scope of Work and document the project plans

  • Develop Design Intent Drawings and optional solutions for the project

  • Present the design options to the POC and project team

  • Create Construction Documentation (CD) packages with all related paperwork necessary for each project

  • Assist in maintaining project records utilizing the HMD/Space Planning Division established procedures and USAID policy, like the following:

  • Balance required resources and budgets per assigned projects

  • Work with the HMD team in assessing risks

  • Develop appropriate mitigation strategies for each project

  • Assist in acquiring and working with the required 3 rd party services of multiple disciplines, like construction, design, IT, telecommunications, and interior furnishings, etc.

  • Coordinate the work with the project team

  • Assist the Senior Space Planner Team Lead with the following:

  • Estimate the amount of time a project will take

  • Schedule appropriate resources

  • Evaluate project methodology

  • Develop corrective solutions as required

  • Interface with vendors, various contractors, system specialists, and Bureau managers

  • Assist the Space Planning and Design Office with the Space Allocation Program

  • Supervisory Responsibilities: None

  • Other duties as assigned


  • BS/BA in Interior Design, Architecture, or related discipline preferred

  • 5+ years of professional experience

  • Background check with the ability to obtain a secret clearance

  • The position requires a COVID vaccination or an approved accommodation/exemption for a disability/medical condition or religious belief

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of the FM Systems software and the modules of Space Planning, Move Management, Assets Management, and Strategic Management is encouraged, but not essential.

  • Ability to utilize the space planning division product standards and procedures is essential.

  • Ability to travel locally.

  • Strong creative and leadership qualities.

  • Knowledgeable in the use of Microsoft Office and its programs, including AutoCAD and related programs.

  • Knowledge of FM Systems or CAFM related program is a plus.

  • Ability to show respect and sensitivity for cultural differences.
