NJVC approaches the work with the intensity expected of a mission-critical IT provider, working within the framework of people, processes, and technologies to meet customer requirements.

The DOT (Department of Transportation) Enterprise Information Technology Shared Services (EITSS) supports the department’s office of the chief information officer in developing and implementing an enterprise IT infrastructure and common operating environment across DOT. The contract still has 5 years left.

NJVC is currently looking for an Infrastructure, Network Engineer to help support a contract located in Washington, DC.

Responsibilities

Work you’ll do

As an Infrastructure, Network Engineer within the DOT (Department of Transportation) Enterprise Information Technology Shared Services ( EITSS ) team, you will:

  • Collaborate with development teams to understand cloud workload solution architecture within the agency AWS environment and provide feedback for optimizing solution architecture covering topics of network and AWS service configuration.

  • Create and update cloud environment configurations to establish and support application workloads, including the configuration of AWS accounts using Control Tower, IAM Users and Roles, VPCs, subnets, load balancers, network routes, Transit Gateway, Systems Manager, Config Manager, stack sets, CloudFront, Route53, WAF, and API Gateway.

  • Build stack sets and cloud formation templates to automate the provisioning of resources.

  • Support and complete requests for operational support, including communicating the level of effort and status to the cloud leadership team.

  • Support data calls for resources provisioned within the cloud environment and report the status of resources.

  • Identify and communicate opportunities for improving agency security posture within cloud environments.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree

  • 9+ years of experience deploying/configuring application workloads within AWS Commercial Cloud

  • Demonstrated understanding of principals supporting compute, network, and storage, supported by direct, hands-on experience

  • Demonstrated understanding of principals configuring and supporting application workloads within AWS, supported by direct, hands-on experience

  • Background check required with the ability to obtain a Public Trust

  • The position requires a COVID vaccination or an approved accommodation/exemption for a disability/medical condition or religious belief

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Experience with Python scripting.

  • AWS Solutions Architect Professional Certificate is highly desired.

  • Must have a broad base of knowledge and be fluent in multiple IT disciplines, like computing and networking.

  • Ability to work independently and yet be effective within a team setting.

  • Must be capable of managing multiple efforts with time-related constraints in a fast-paced contracting environment.

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with diverse internal and external stakeholder groups and individuals.

  • Friendly presence, helpful attitude, good interpersonal skills, and ability to work well with others.

  • Excellent skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, and other Office applications.

  • Experience working in a home office setting as well as the ability to train end users on frequently asked technical issues.

  • Ability to provide technical assistance and support over the phone with good phone skills and a professional demeanor.

  • Previous customer service experience strongly desired.

  • Good problem-solving skills with the ability to visualize a problem or situation and think abstractly to solve it.
