Chenega Corporation VDI Engineer in Virginia


100% Remote

NJVC is seeking a VDI Engineer with expert experience in VMware vSphere and Horizon View, as well as experience in either Azure or AWS Cloud environments to support our federal government customer. The VDI Engineer will work within the server engineering team supporting the Infrastructure and Operations Hosting Environment within the Department of Transportation.


  • Perform day-to-day activities required to administer VDI in support of end-users.

  • Create and deploy application packages to VDI users.

  • Perform VDI image created and distribution.

  • Perform all system updates and patches.

  • Troubleshoot complex issues and provide incident resolution for all related incidents requiring escalated support or subject matter enterprise.

  • Other duties as assigned


  • High school diploma or GED required

  • 5+ years of related experience administrating a Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI)

  • Must have experience providing end-user support related to VDI

  • VMware VCP certification required

  • Background check required

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to obtain a public trust

  • Candidate will not be able to take leave between August 15 – September 30 as this is when natural disasters (i.e., hurricanes) are most likely to occur

  • Must be able to visit customers sites when requested

  • VMware ESXi Virtualization experience

  • VMware Horizon View VDI experience

  • Liquidware Labs ProfileUnity and Stratusphere UX experience

  • Operating Systems (Windows 10, Windows 2012 R2, Windows 2019) experience

  • VMware ThinApp and Microsoft App-V application virtualization experience

  • Amazon Workspaces VDI desktops experience

  • Azure Virtual Desktop and Windows Virtual Desktop (WVD) experience

  • Cisco UCS Blade Servers experience

  • NetApp SAN systems experience

  • Active Directory and Group Policy Management experience

  • Experience in administering Windows and NetApp CIFS file shares and NTFS security

  • Smart cards/PIV cards/CAC card integration experience

  • Experience with SQL server HA Clusters

  • General scripting knowledge (VBScript, PowerShell)

  • General administration of Unix/Linux (Red Hat, CentOS, Apache, Tomcat)

  • Ability to work independently and yet be effective within a team setting

  • Must be capable of managing multiple efforts with time related constraints in a fast-paced contracting environment

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with diverse internal and external stakeholder groups and individuals

  • Friendly presence, helpful attitude, good interpersonal skills, and ability to work well with others

  • Excellent skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, and other Office applications

  • Experience working in a home office setting as well as the ability to train end users on frequently asked technical issues

  • Ability to provide technical assistance and support over the phone with good phone skills and a professional demeanor

  • Previous customer service experience strongly desired

  • Good problem-solving skills with the ability to visualize a problem or situation and think abstractly to solve it
