Venturi, LLC, a Chenega company has an exciting opportunity for a Weather Observer who will work at Vandenberg Space Force Base, CA (VASB). This individual will support a team that operates the VSFB Representative Weather Observatory (RWO) during airfield operating hours (normally, Monday through Friday, 0730 to 1700 hours local time), including after hours or weekend support when airfield is open, to perform upper air and surface observations consistent with AFMAN 15-111 and AFMAN 15-124, FMH-3, and IAW 30 SWI 15-101, or supporting OPLANs.
Work you’ll do
As a Weather Observer within our Weather Advisory contract team, you will:
Report and receive direction from the prime contractor’s Weather Systems Manager.
Support completion of an upper air observation using computer data reduction. This assignment requires the attention of one certified observer from the time of instrument preflight through the final transmission of data (approximately 3 hours).
Serve as a certified surface observer on duty during operating hours to maintain the basic surface weather observation program or as a trained, qualified, and experienced observer to accomplish surface observations and balloon schedules.
Support airfield operations during non-normal hours. (The airfield is normally open between 0730L (local) to 1700L Monday through Friday, except normal federal holidays.)
Other duties as assigned.
High school diploma or GED required
Current weather advisor certification (NFI) or 2+ years of experience with a Department of Defense (DoD), Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), or National Weather Service (NWS) agency in taking, recording, encoding, and disseminating surface observations using Meteorological Aviation Report (METAR) code
At least 20/20 vision or visual acuity correctable to 20/20 with glasses or contact lenses
National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI) background check and fingerprint check for a Common Access Card (CAC) and government email account
Background check required
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Abiltiy to analyze and resolve problems.
Working knowledge of weather advisory systems and airfield missions at VSFB.
Familiarity with DoD processes and procedures.
