Company Job Title: Information System Security Engineer

Reports To: Program Manager

FLSA Status: Exempt, Full Time, Regular


The Information System Security Engineer primary focus is to engineer, design, implement, and test network intrusion detection system (IDS), network intrusion protection system (IPS), host intrusion protection system (HIPS), web and application protection, enterprise anti-virus suite to protect standard IT components.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ensure that the architecture and design of DoD information systems are functional and secure

  • Provide security subject matter expertise at all engineering, change, configuration control or equivalent meetings

  • Assess threats to the environment

  • Provide inputs on the adequacy of security designs and architectures

  • Participate in risk assessment during the certification and accreditation process

  • Ensure that the architecture and design of DoD information systems are functional and secure

  • Design and develop IA or IA enabled products, interface specifications, and approaches to secure the environment, as needed

  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications: (To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.)

  • Bachelor's Degree and 8 years relevant experience or

  • Associate’s Degree and 10 years relevant experience or

  • 12 years relevant experience

  • Years of relevant work experience includes:

  • Experience with information security and Cybersecurity engineering or security operations

  • Experience with the design and implementation of enterprise-wide security controls to secure systems, applications, networks, or infrastructure services

  • Experience using Xacta360 by Telos

  • Experience preparing for Command Cyber Readiness Inspections (CCRI)

  • Security certification within 90 days of hire

  • TS/SCI required

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Familiarity creating Plan of Actions and Milestones (POAM)

  • Knowledge of the Intelligence Community Directive 503 and/or Risk Management Framework

  • Ability to work independently and yet be effective within a team setting

  • Must be capable of managing multiple efforts with time related constraints in a fast-paced contracting environment

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with diverse internal and external stakeholder groups and individuals

  • Friendly presence, helpful attitude, good interpersonal skills, and ability to work well with others.

  • Excellent skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, and other Office applications

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Applications, and experience working in a home office setting as well as the ability to train end users on frequently asked technical issues.

  • Ability to provide technical assistance and support over the phone; good phone skills, professional demeanor, previous customer service experience strongly desired.

  • Good problem-solving skills; ability to visualize a problem/situation and think abstractly to solve it

  • The employee will normally work in a temperature-controlled office environment, with frequent exposure to electronic office equipment.

  • During visits to areas of operations, may be exposed to extreme cold or hot weather conditions. Is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and loud noise.
