Equipment Maintenance Supervisor

Summary: TheEquipment Maintenance Supervisor (EMS) is responsible for overseeing the inventory of physical assets, as well as the preventive, unscheduled, and general maintenance of all equipment assigned to the Redstone Enterprise Support Unit. TheEMS will maintain adequate inventory of repair parts and supplies for the RESU, as well as maintain and monitor the monthly maintenance budget for equipment assigned to the RESU. TheEMS will supervise all equipment maintenance personnel within the RESU.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Instruct all drivers and operators on preventive maintenance techniques to minimize major breakdowns;

  • Ensure operating procedures are followed, and recommend updates as needed.

  • Train staff on safe operating procedures.

  • Present films and lectures on safe operating procedures;

  • Serve as liaison between maintenance staff and the government customer to ensure equipment is operated and maintained to the highest standards possible

  • Perform periodical inspections of equipment to ensure that negligence or abuse is not occurring and that equipment is operating properly;

  • Coordinate all major mechanical repair work with the government customer or contracted vendors to minimize downtime.

  • Coordinate and transport equipment and vehicles to local vendors as needed for repairs

  • Ensure first aid supplies, fire extinguishers, and other safety gear are available on all equipment;

  • Prepare and review monthly and yearly reports to assist in evaluating fuel use, vehicle and equipment replacement, supplies, budget, etc. and prepare budgetary requests for new/replacement vehicles and equipment;

  • Procure supplies and services, as needed, to support the Waste Collections operation.

  • Examples: first aid supplies, fire extinguishers, PPE’s, uniforms, roll carts, etc.

  • Track inventories

  • Investigate accidents and claims of property damage involving company or government owned vehicles and equipment, and file reports

  • Coordinate with the government customer on the surplus of outdated equipment and the acquisition of new equipment to expedite the process

  • Coordinate with the government customer on equipment replacement to identify equipment that has exceeded its useful life and to ensure new procurements meet the operational needs.

  • Evaluate emerging technologies and equipment trends

  • Coordinate site/facility improvements, maintenance, and repairs as needed

  • Perform other job duties requiring skills, knowledge and physical requirements as demanded by those duties described or less.

  • Individual assignments will be determined by the supervisor based on then current workloads and department needs.

Minimum qualifications:

  • High school diploma/ GED required and 5+ years experience in the field of fleet maintenance utilizing the required knowledge, skills, and abilities and associated with positions such as:

  • Fleet manager

  • Automotive or heavy equipment mechanic

  • Mechanic shop foreman

  • Route manager/supervisor

  • Equipment manager

  • Equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities may also be used in lieu.

  • Must have, or obtain, a current and valid state driver’s license

  • May require a Commercial Driver’s License

  • US Government Top Secret Security Clearance

  • If required, be able to successfully complete a counterintelligence-based polygraph examination.
