Summary:

The Medical Simulations Specialist will facilitate medical simulation training, and operate task-trainers, mannequin-based and surgical simulators.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the design, development and testing, and implementation of testing equipment and scenarios.

  • Collaborate with the AMMAST CPO/DMMSO on duties to assume.

  • Set-up simulation supplies/equipment in support of training scenarios targeted to meet identified learning objectives.

  • Operate simulation equipment, task-trainers, computerized simulators and virtual reality, mixed reality, and augmented reality procedural trainers individually or in combination with the ability to follow legitimate medical aspects of scenarios and shall make appropriate adjustments based on participant actions or inactions.

  • Utilize approved training scenarios when available and applicable and provide feedback on improvement through AMMAST CPO/DMMSO.

  • Operate, maintain, and debrief simulation- related audio-video recording systems.

  • Facilitate simulation training and provide feedback to the AMMAST CPO/DMMSO.

  • Create troubleshooting documents, simulator checklists, and simulator lesson plans/scenarios for simulation equipment.

  • Assist simulation sites with train-the-trainer activities and basic troubleshooting for the purpose of training new simulation staff.

  • Update simulation encounters and other identified metrics, forward and coordinate this information with the AMMAST CPO/DMMSO as required.

  • Integrate with the Joint Simulation Environment and other collaborative simulation environments as needed to support Live, Virtual, and Constructive training events with U.S. Government, U.S. military or partner nation services for the purpose of health care training and education.

Minimum Qualifications: (To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.)

  • Associate degree or technical certification in a computer technology field (e.g. hardware, networking, helpdesk, etc.)

  • 4 years’ work experience in same discipline may be substituted for an Associate degree.

  • 3 years of experience in the medical or military medical field OR 2 years’ experience with the operation of patient simulation equipment.

  • Must have the ability to pass an in-depth background check.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Expertise with a variety of medical simulation platforms (i.e. CAE, Laerdal, Gaumard, KGS, SynDaver/SynTissue, MOES, others).

  • Familiarity with Army Medical Education and simulation processes, procedures, and methodology required.

  • Certification as a Simulation Operator (CHSOS) through the Society for Simulation in Healthcare (SSH) is highly desirable.

  • Ability to support up to 10% of local, out of state, and weekend travel as needed.

  • Possess excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize.

  • Ability to effectively communicate in written and verbal English language.

  • Proficiency in MS software applications including MS Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint as well as Internet and database applications.

  • Ability to learn new software and hardware quickly and independently.

  • Knowledge of audio/video equipment and software for recording, duplication, mixing and editing.

  • While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to sit and talk or hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.

  • The employee will normally work in a temperature-controlled office environment, with frequent exposure to electronic office equipment.

  • During visits to areas of operations, may be exposed to extreme cold or hot weather conditions. Is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and loud noise.
