Summary:

The Personal Computer Support Tech provides support to the IT Help Desk and will resolve a variety of routine and difficult operating problems. In response to customer and system network issues, the Personal Computer Support Tech applies standard operating or corrective procedures and handles problems that do not respond to preplanned procedure.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Monitors and operates the enterprise.

  • Provides technical support for the SWFPAC Command’s employees.

  • Receives assignments designed to expand practical experience in applying computer troubleshooting techniques and procedures.

  • Uses established fact-finding approaches, knowledge of pertinent work processes and procedures, and familiarity with related computer system software, and computer equipment.

  • Researches routine user problems and solves them by modifying the existing system when the solutions follow clear precedents.

  • Performs tasks to maintain computer equipment and their peripherals.

  • Repairs hardware and software failures as needed in a timely manner to provide an efficient work environment.

  • Maintains inventory databases and maintenance logs.

  • Collects information from users about problem and lead user through diagnostic procedures to determine source of problem.

  • Provides Windows desktop support in-person and using remote control access.

  • Assists in the maintenance and administration of user workstations, laptops, printers, network equipment and wireless devices for both SIPRNET and NIPRNET.

  • Assists in the maintenance and administration of Motorola equipment, i.e. radios, consoles, encryption devices, and KVLs.

  • Supports Microsoft Office applications and other customer applications.

  • Troubleshoots and sets up Blackberry and other PDA

  • Documents work done in IT Help Desk tickets from initial request through request completion.

  • Coordinates user problem resolution with other IT department staff as necessary.

  • Develops and maintain system documentation regarding physical topology, equipment, environment and/or software.

  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications : (To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.)

  • High School Diploma/GED required.

  • 3 years IT Help Desk training or experience

  • 2 years’ experience in an IT desktop support role

  • Experience with governmental procurement

  • Experience with governmental IT Help Desk operations

  • Experience working in a multi-platform environment with Windows 2000/XP

  • Secret Clearance required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Sufficient understanding of TCP/IP networking protocol to do preliminary network troubleshooting

  • Must be able to obtain DoD 8570 IAT Level I within 6 months of hire

  • Competence in Microsoft Office skills

  • Ability to write clearly and edit work for spelling and grammar

  • The employee will normally work in a temperature-controlled office environment, with frequent exposure to electronic office equipment.

  • During visits to areas of operations, may be exposed to extreme cold or hot weather conditions. Is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and loud noise.
